  Marc Sterling, Founder

     

Marc Sterling founded Sterling’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service in 1985 in Dallas, Texas. Prior to establishing the firm, Marc spent three tax seasons with the Internal Revenue Service as well as working in the Oil and Gas Industry. Marc’s vision for Sterling’s came from this experience where he discovered a need in the market to provide individuals and businesses with day-to-day financial consulting, and tax and bookkeeping services to enable them to better manage and maximize their hard earned dollars and operations. In addition to consulting clients, Marc serves as a public speaker at numerous events and has written for industry publications, including Skyward Magazine, Master Wealth, and for various Chambers of Commerce. Originally from Miami Beach, Florida, Marc earned his Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin in 1984. He currently resides in Sedona, Arizona and enjoys playing tennis, hiking, boating and many other outdoor activities with his pride and joy, son Trevor.


  Jon Chester, President

     

As President of Sterling’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service, Jon oversees the firm’s operations, meets with clients for tax planning, tax return preparation, and business consulting. Jon has been awarded a coveted “DFW FIVE STAR Wealth Manager Award” by Texas Monthly in both 2009 and 2010. Prior to joining Sterling’s in 2005, Jon worked in corporate accounting, international tax, and tax compliance for Mary Kay, Inc. and YUM! Restaurants International Inc. (KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut). A Texas native from Lubbock, Jon earned his BBA in Accounting from Texas Tech University in 1990, and a Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2003. Jon earned his CPA in 1995. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), and is an active member of numerous other professional and philanthropic organizations.


  Kevin Gardner, Vice President

     

Kevin is responsible for overseeing the tax department as well as numerous bookkeeping clients that he has maintained over the years. He joined Sterling’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service in 2000 as a manager in the tax department and was named a partner in 2005. In 2002, Kevin became certified to practice before the IRS as an Enrolled Agent. A South Carolina native, Kevin earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A & M University in 2000. Outside of work, Kevin is the Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Oak Cliff. Kevin and his wife Emily are also involved in their church and various other community organizations. Personally he loves watching sports, working around the house, and just being outside.


  Gilbert Castillo, Treasurer & Office Manager

     

Gilbert has more than 20 years of experience in office management, accounts payable, payroll, and bookkeeping. As an Office Manager for Sterling’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service, Gilbert is responsible for office administration, including; billing, collections and Human Resources. Additionally, he is fluent in Spanish and serves as a liaison for Sterling’s to the Hispanic community. Prior to joining Sterling’s in 2005, Gilbert served in various office management and finance rolls. His employment consists of companies such as Mary Kay, Inc., Evercom Systems Communication, and Louisville Gas & Electric. He has also owned a successful restaurant and catering business, which he has since sold. Gilbert is a Texas native from Crosbyton and is actively involved in professional and philanthropic organizations and enjoys playing outdoor sports and watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Mavericks.


  Melissa Etie, Hurst Branch Manager

     

With over 20 years experience in bookkeeping, payroll, auditing, and financial review services, Melissa Etie recently joined Sterling’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service after 7 years with a CPA firm in North Tarrant County. Melissa began her career working for the State of Texas as an auditor for the Texas Probation Department. She has also worked in corporate accounting as the Senior Accountant for Brooks Products, a multi-state manufacturing company. Texas born and raised, Melissa received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A & M University. Originally from Beaumont, Melissa and her husband Clint moved to Austin, the west coast and briefly overseas for Clint’s career before settling down in the Keller area. Melissa and Clint are the proud parents of three wonderful children. When Melissa cannot be found at the office or working with her clients, she is attending football and basketball games of her two sons and spending time with her daughter, who plans to attend Texas Tech University in the Fall.


  David Loter, Dallas Bookkeeping Manager

     

With over 25 years experience in bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, and financial review services, David joined Sterling’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service in 2005. Prior to working for Sterling’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service, David worked for several CPA firms such as Arthur Anderson, Marrou Hagan PC, and KBA Group. David has also worked for companies such as Chessex Manufacturing and Wholesale Distributing and Texas A & M University, where he also attended school. David is actively involved in a local Chamber of Commerce, and in his free time enjoys playing with his dog and cat, and attending concert events with his friends.
